University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking aDirector of Alumni Relations and Annual Givingto join School of Pharmacy. The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (SOP) is currently in the midst of a university wide capital campaign. As part of this effort, the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs (DAA) is building a model fundraising infrastructure, one that will meet the growing needs of the SOP and support the School's strategic plan. The Director will manage all functions of alumni relations and annual giving for the SOP. Duties & Responsibilities: Establish metrics to track alumni, recruit and manage programs that involve volunteers, design and implement the annual giving program, identify and research annual fund prospects, plan, direct and execute programs, update and maintain donor and prospect information, oversee and edit alumni web content and manage the SOP's online alumni community, manage the production schedule and timelines of print and email invites, programs and registration event materials, speak publicly at alumni gatherings to promote alumni involvement with the SOP and its current students.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and coordinate of annual fund or alumni campaigns that renew, retain, increase, and acquire all levels of annual giving donors or alumni. These plans include annual giving metrics that are comprised of: at least $400,000’s raised and 12 annual events.

  • Contribute to annual solicitation calendar and work plans, which include setting goals, objectives, tactics and milestones.

  • Monitor assigned project budget and expenses.

  • Formulate and execute effective communication/marketing materials and solicitation activities within specific market segments identified as having potential for the greatest growth, including creating and editing of all solicitation appeals.

  • Evaluate program results using market research and results from peer institutions to identify areas of success and revision.

  • Participate in planning meetings, accept special assignments, assist colleagues and provide support for all ongoing programs and operations, as needed.

  • Prepare routine reports on annual giving trends, donor participation, fundraising costs, and analyze data for use in goal setting and planning, and for building strategies for the future.

  • Execute strategic initiatives that may have internal or external impact and establish annual giving or alumni relations direction. Responsible for short and long-term projects and campaigns for the annual giving or alumni program and activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

Experience:Three (3) years of related progressive experience in external relations, outreach or fundraising, as well as familiarity with principles and practices of annual giving.

Other:No substitution of experience for minimum education requirement.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment, discretion, tact and a willingness to take initiative.

  • Excellent written oral and interpersonal skills; demonstrated personal solicitation experience. strong computer skills and knowledge of database research and maintenance. must be able to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed. must be an effective time manager with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision, while successfully achieving all agreed goals.

  • The ideal candidate should be an individual who takes initiative, familiar with managing portfolio of annual fund funds and ability to pursue fundraising best practices; must possess confidence to contact potential donors and be comfortable presenting to groups, should be creative, and highly organized.
